Supporting Veteran?s for Peace?s Golden Rule 2022-23: The Great Loop |
|
Veterans for Peace has recovered and restored the original peace boat, the Golden Rule, that set sail in 1958 to stop nuclear testing in the atmosphere, and which inspired many peace makers and peace ships that followed. The restored Golden Rule is voyaging once more, to show that a nuclear peace is possible, and that bravery and tenacity can overcome militarism. | |
To support the Golden Rule Great Loop and their message of A World Without Nuclear Weapons we will be ?passing the hat? and advocating for your support. |

An open letter from Joe Wasserman about the need
for
an Ad about Nuclear Weapons
Dear Friends,
Let's make certain we place the vital issue of nuclear weapons abolition on the 2008 political campaign agenda, by supporting an important and vital ad speaking out against nuclear weapons and by passing this e-mail on.
To assure that happens please sign on to the attached (enclosed) ad.
Cold warriors like Henry Kissinger and George Schultz, the Democratic Party Platform, Mayors for Peace, the U.S. Conference of Mayors, CT peace organizations and the vast majority of people across the world are urgently calling for nuclear abolition.
Please read, print and sign onto the ad, ask several friends and relatives to do so, take to gatherings also, and send a $25 donation or more for each signature to help pay for the ad.
We need at least 250 paying signatures to place a half-page or larger ad in a major CT newspaper to raise the issue of abolition before the elections this fall.
The deadline to receive signatures and payment is Sept. 30. Please don't wait.
This ad is co-sponsored by the American Friends Service Committee,
CT; City of New Haven Peace Commission; Connecticut Coaliton for Peace
and Justice; Greater New Haven Peace Council; No Nukes, No War;
Northeast CT Peace & Justice; People's Action for Clean Energy;
Promoting An Enduring Peace

Thank you!
Yours truly

Launching a New Nuclear Arms Race!

New Nuclear Weapons Complex "Although national security is widely perceived to depend on military strength, more weapons do not provide enduring security. Military expansion provokes fear and potential retaliation. Threats tend to increase the hostility and distrust that lead to war. We believe that nations must move toward comprehensive disarmament. We urge multilateral disarmament, supported by the conversion of military industries to the production of civilian goods and services, and the retraining of personnel toward that end. We also advocate that the United States take unilateral steps toward its own disarmament, believing that other nations will respond affirmatively to this example. The risks of disarmament are far smaller than the risks involved in the current course of weapons stockpiling and development." ~ Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL) Statement of Legislative Policy For more information, click => here |
No More Blood On Our Hands Campaign The Red Hand campaign is about stopping any nuclear or conventional attack on the people of Iran. We urge you to download flyer(s) get them signed and deliver them to your Congressional Representatives (House and Senate) You may return them to Joe Wasserman for him to deliver as part of a consolidated package (joewass64@yahoo.com) For a flyer click => here |
Divestment News!
New Haven Goes Ballistic
The New Haven Board of Aldermen voted on a proposal Monday night in favor
of pension fund divestment from corporations that profit from nuclear weapons
production ...
"Marder was positively beaming after the vote, which was a lopsided 18 in
favor, 6 opposed, with two abstentions. The resolution identifies the
"Dirtiest Dozen" corporations that profit from the design or
manufacture of nuclear weapons. It calls on the board to ?request? (a
change from the original ?instruct?) that the city's pension boards to
determine whether any city pension funds are invested in any of these
companies, and if so, to divest from them."

STOP NUCLEAR FIRST STRIKE POLICY!
In September the Bush Administration announced a doctrine of first strike "pre-emptive" use of nuclear weapons against non-nuclear nations suspected of harboring weapons of mass destruction. If this doctrine had been in place in 2003, the U.S. might have nuclear bombed Iraq. This doctrine greatly increases the danger of a nuclear confrontation.
The consideration of first strike use of nuclear weapons on Iran by the Bush Administration has made the world a much more dangerous place to live.
The world looks on as the U.S. keeps blocking international efforts to disarm nuclear weapons. It is urgent that we work for the reduction and elimination of nuclear weapons, before they are used and convince our leaders of this necessity.
The NO Nukes! NO War! committee is conducting the following related campaigns:
1. We urge the divestment by cities, states, unions, churches, etc.,
of pension and other funds from the dozen companies most involved with
the production and development nuclear weapons. These dirty dozen
companies are as follows:
Alliant
Bechtel, Inc.
British Aerospace Electronics (BAE Systems)
Boeing
British Nuclear Fuels (BNFL)
General Dynamics
IBM
Lockheed Martin
Mitsubishi
Raytheon
Siemens
TRW
University of California
Can you approach your Church or Synagogue, Town or City Council or your union with this proposal ? This would be an excellent way of raising the issue of nuclear weapons and taking positive action. If you can help please contact us.
2. At the federal level, urge the passage of HR 373, sponsored by Representative Lynn Woolsey, calling for nuclear weapons disarmament and a NO first strike use of nuclear weapons policy. Please sign our petition and send a message to your Congressional Representative asking for him/her to co-sponsor HR 373. Please follow-up with a phone call or letter to your Representative in support of this resolution.
3. At the state level, we hope to pass again a legislative resolution calling for nuclear weapons disarmament. Such a resolution actually passed the state Senate in spring 2005, but was not taken up by the state House.
The No Nukes! No War! Committee meets the third Thursday of every
month at the Church of the Holy Trinity in Middletown at 6:00 P.M. We
welcome your participation. Please contact Joe Wasserman at 860-561-1897
or at
joewass64@yahoo.com for more information on this committee.
